Smart PSD file

Hello Everyone -

I am working on a type (text only) project in Photoshop CC 2018.  I received a nice "watercolor effect" smart psd file from a designer.  But I don't know how to use this smart psd file to make my text (type) to look like the beautiful watercolor effect he has going.  Here are some screen shots of his artwork and the layers he has in this smart psd file.  Its making me feel very dumb but may you guys will know how I can use it.  He uses a combination of filters to create the effect I am looking for.

Somehow I supposed to be able to use this smart psd to convert my type into the same look and feeling ( don't mean the same font - just the way the filters effect the

font)  I tried replicating the smart filter combination but it looks nothing like what he's done......

Thanks for any an all help!  I must eat now before I faint but I'll be close by....

Just try clicking the box in the lower right of the smart object thumbnail. That opens a tab where you edit the type to the font and size you want.

When you are finished, File > Save it and it should return you to the original file with the updated text.

If you don't get it right, lose the changes or Revert the file. Keep a few extra copies of the Smart PSD around for backup.

But that's guessing by looking at it. Are you able to contact the designer and explain the problem? If he does not have time to tutor you, ask for a resource, a video, or step by step instructions.

If he was good enough to give you the psd, he should be willing to provide instructions somewhere.

There's also others here that are great designers and should be coming by with better information.

Thank you Gene!  Wait almost.  I thought I had it...  I had to double click the right corner of the smart object thumbnai to get

it to do anything and then I added text to his original page and  then saved it - after it changed my text to a smart object it would ope with my new text with the effect! But... his orginal text was still there - can't figure out how to get rid of his stuff and have the "smar psd" file just have my text........  I must be doing something wrong - but I'm closer but yet so far...

Thank you again for any and all help...  any ideas how to get rif=d if the original text???

    thanks,

    Garry

Ctrl or Cmd (Mac) to select all on the Smart Layer during editing and Delete to clear out the old text, then add your text.

Or create a new layer, add the text, make it a Smart Layer by right clicking the new layer in the Layers Panel, and selecting "Convert to Smart Object". Delete the old Smart Object Layer. Save your work and it will update the Smart PSD.
