[Solved] Ctrl + H hides both guides and selection

Hi All,
on a new, unaltered Photoshop installation (Win10) pressing Ctrl-+ H hides both guides and selections. Hiding guides has its default mapping Ctrl+; assigned but it seemingly gets overriden somehow. I'm on an English OS, with German regional settings and keyboard. Photoshop is running in English. I did not run into problems with older (CS) versions of Photoshop and a comparable setup. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Hi
Ctrl+H will Hide/Show everything that is checked in View > Show.
I'm confused about your question, though. What exactly is not working as expected and what do you need to be able to do?

Hi Jane, thanks for your answer! Oh – good to know that Ctrl+H is set up by default to hide several "Extras" at once. Seemingly I had remapped this default behaviour in previous versions, as I am very used to just hiding the selection with Ctrl H (and nothing else). I don't need a Hide all Extras function, but separate hotkeys for guides and selections. I'll check remapping options and report back when I've found a solution.

I wasn't aware (any more), that Ctrl H is set up by default to hide several Extras at once. I have now remapped Ctrl H to just hide selections and used other shortcuts hide and show guides, to get more fine grained control. This older thread describes a solution, in case anyone else runs into this. I marked the thread as solved.

Hi Poly XO
One other hint: note that some of my options are greyed out, such as the guides that you want to uncheck. Just create a guide in a document first and then you'll be able to uncheck it in "View > Show".
Do the same for anything else that you use (and don't worry about the ones you don't.)

Ah, I see: Ctrl+H as a customizable multi-hider! Right now I can not imagine that I want to switch off various "Extras" at once, but it's good to know that this is possible 🙂
