Hi
We had some great ideas shown in our last 'Gone fishing' challenge. This time we start with an everday object - a simple match. What can you make with it?
The “rules”:
* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc
* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".
* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
* The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.
To download the image below at full size, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun
Dave

I'm going to try to continue contributing to SFTW rather than continue to be a long time lurker.

I could not resist. I took this sunset in October of 2020. The sunset was so beautiful I did not want it to end. But I thought it would be fun to keep the sunset still burning. 🙂

A lovely matching of the sun, Jumpenjax.

Another great idea Lee. I see you are a print specialist. Did you have any interaction with our Professor Norman before he so sadly passed? He would have loved chatting about the sort of new tech you are no doubt using, compared to the Gutenberg Press he started out using.

Sadly, no wish I had had a chat with him, but my father-in law was old school too. He was trained on the first computer that created layers. It was the size of a small room. Then he said, I volunteered to have the training on how to use this new device because this was where print is going. Sadly to say he is no longer with us.

FYI... a tip I might end up using for this SFTW challenge is Filter > Render > Flame... first you have to make a path though! : ) This might help with blending/adding more fire to the match.

Eye Candy 7 also has a flame effect, but it is not as good as Dave's render. This is not one of the presets, but best I could get using the sliders.

Jane, you'll get us closed down! I'm sure this should be accompanied by a whole list of health and safety warnings 🙂

So I should omit the "Try to set the night on fire" line? 😊

Super cool Dave, and I hope you tell us how you did it?

I used Blender 3D's geometry nodes to make lots of cuboids as instances on a plane. Then I sampled the SFTW starter image to give each cuboid a colour and vertical position. I added two flat planes to act as mirrors. Finally I used keyframes to animate the camera position and the vertical scale of the cuboids.

The flame dance.
Strong and fast rhythm.
On the spot.

That's a great job in bringing the flame to life Trevor. I can see the reversal at the top and the flickering at the bottom all helps.

I'm hoping you'll have as much fun solving this as I had making it. It might be nice tellings us you have worked it out, but let more people play before giving it away — although I think everyone will get it PDQ.

Very good Trevor, and with Wimbledon just around the corner....

That was quick Dave. Was it too easy?

I got the line through meaning quickly and I knew what the first image was - so that helped with the rest. 🙂
