We see a lot of modern wind turbines these days but this windmill, in York, dates back to 1770 and was milling flour long before the houses appeared around it in the 1900's. Now restored, by volunteers in the Holgate Mill Preservation Society, it is open to visitors and does grind flour on open days.
The restorers have done an excellent job on the mill, but can you show what the scene might have looked like in its golden years of the 18th century?

We get a few threads in an average year asking how to convert to line art, and this is a really nice clean job, so what was your process Bob?

I had a go to see if I could get that reult and wasn't as successful. So am also interested in the process Bob.

This is the best I could get with Topaz Simplify, which has been my goto for line art for as long as I can remember. That sail on the right is very fient, and that's after duplicating the layer several times, and setting to Multiply.
I thought Bob might have used standed PS tools so tried Filter > Sketch > Notepaper, and got a nice surprise. I had to invert of course. I wonder if the large resolution helped?

I like Find Edges plus a B&W adjustment layer for that kind of style
If you then combine it with some blurred and blended colour you get a nice paint over drawn lines effect:

I'm not at my computer with Photoshop on it now, and I can't remember exactly what I did, but it was just one filter and converted to B&W. I also removed some of the trees on the side as well.

Here's my go (quick and dirty).
* Filter Gallery - Stylize > Glowing edges
* Change to Grayscale
* Invert

Here's not-quite-so-quick and not-quite-so-dirty. 😄
Copy bg to new layer, desaturate.
Copy that to new layer, invert, make smart object.
Blend mode > Linear Dodge.
Motion Blur on Linear Dodge layer, angle and distance to taste.
Add a Levels adjustment layer, adjust contrast to taste.

The filter I used was indeed Find Edges as suggested by davescm .
Then Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and Saturation = -100

What's better than one windmill? Two - but best not too close to each other.
Used Generative Fill as a smart Content Aware fill in parts.

Woah! I didn't know there was a windmill in the Inception movie! It kind of reminds me of me after eating all of the pies.

Maybe in the Inception Uncut version - after visiting Paris, they go to York 🙂

Everything being upside down is just normal for you being an Ozzie. 😉 It's almost the same for me, except with a bit of an offset, plus I create my own gravity.
