Something for the Weekend - Part 227 - Going loco!

Community Expert ,
Nov 08, 2024 Nov 08, 2024

Thank to all who took part in our previous 'puddles' challenge. After all that walking and splashing, this week I thought we should look at more modern transport. of course 'more modern' is relative and this locomotive is on the South Tynedale railway in Alston, a 2 foot, narrow gauge, railway.

As the train pulls into the platform, what happens next?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

Rather than work in Photoshop, I thought I'd return to the same spot and take a shot with my old Nokia... ;-D

Haha - remember when 1 Mpixel was considered huge. The early Nokias had 0.3Mpx (640x480). Of course, the VGA monitors at the time matched that with displays of 640 x 480 size  and even SVGA only used 800 x 600 px for  display.

I used to think my Amiga 1000 screen resolution of 640 X 256 (640 X 512 interlaced) PAL, and 4096 colours, was pretty flash back then.  My first digital camera was a Canon Powershot (I forget the exact model, but it had a 4Mp sensor), and despit it's limited resolution, I thought it produced a beautifully clean picture.  I gave up working professionally a good few years ago, and have not updated my camera bodies since then, but still have a 1DC and a 5DS, and it is nearly always the the 5DS I go to nowadays.  It was always what I used for commercial work (mostly wine and beer bottles) because its 50Mp sensor was better for making clipping masks.   I do have an R7 that I bought for travelling, but I couldn't tell you what its resolution is.

That all happened in a bit over twenty years, which is an incredibly short time if you think about it.  That would take Photoshop back to the first CS version, which came out in 2003.  They moved to the Creative Cloud subscription model eleven years ago in 2013.  I can bearly believe it was so long ago.

Two 'best friends forever' after a night of partying and misunderstanding the directions they were given to public transportation.

I'm going to have the Bee Gees singing Night Fever in my head for the rest of today.

Well that turned out well.  I was looking for a joke cover of Night Fever and found a Bee Gees cover band doing an amazing cover of Guilty with a lady, Terita Botha, who does a very reasonable Barbara Streisand.
