Something for the Weekend - Part 235 - Rocky X

Thanks to all who took part in our previous challenges. For the last two challenges we started with small objects, first a spark plug then a dried clove, so I thought this week we should go large. Most artists like a blank canvas and today our canvas is a dry, rocky, and barren landscape. What you put in it, to tell us a story, is up to you.

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave

It took me a moment or two to find your trademark red eyes James.

I'd be heading for cover double sharpish if the sky suddenly looked like that!  I've heard that the third line from that wee shepard's weather forecast ditty goes:

'If you see a brown sky, then you're gonna die!

If you see two red eyes, it'll hasten your demise.'

It looks much cooler now that you have added the water. I like the hint of reflection on the water surface at the left. Nice job!

It was our hottest day of the year yesterday, and we had the warmest town in the country.  Way too hot to do anything outside.  Not even my wee dog wanted to go out in it.  So spent more time than is probably healthy sitting in front of thew computer... 😞  [EDIT] Firefly used to make the red rose text. Otherwise zero Ai.

That's what happens when you have way too much time on your hands, Trevor! It's not every day you see a Cyberman and Darth Vader in the same image. Sergeant Pepper for the 21st Century. Love it!

I'd been wondering how to introduce a drum for that text and graphic, but Jabba the Hutt's big tummy suddenly lept out on me.  A wee bloat with liquify, and it was the perfect shape and in keeping with the rest of the image.  It's funny how things work out.

A change of lighting but matching the shadows and directions to the starter image - nice job.

What a nice job you've masde of that JR.  The glacier fits the contours perfectly, and I love the shadow where the glacier forks. Our glaciers here in NZ are receding dramatically.  I love how the ice has ground and polished the rock face on the right, and how it's made the strata much more evident.  Assuming that the strata were horizontal when formed, imagine the force needed to rotate that rock through a full 90 °.

I was on this glacier 25 years ago.  There were melt holes you could easily slip into (we were wearing hobnailed boots).  I asked the guide what happens if someone fell into one of these holes, and he said 'They died'.

Was there back in 2008... the little signs beside the road with the years written on them where the glacier was back throughout the centuries really touched me so deeply! 😢

But did they know that they fell into alignment with other planets this week?

Haha. There is a parking area near here, that has a sign saying 'No chain saws allowed' which always puzzles me as to why they felt the need for such a sign! 🙂

Sometimes you have to wonder what on earth happened to necessitate such a sign. I once had a blow dryer with a tag that said "DO NOT USE IN BATHTUB."  (duh)

I was looking at the image before reading your text, and trying to workout the relevance of the golden statuettes.  They were good movies for sure.  Something I learned from the movies was the existance of so many Dune books since the original some 60 years ago. I have collected them all as audiobooks and am looking forward to making a start on them.

It seemed to need an extra-terrestrial context.

Yes, there is nothing in the 'rules' that restricts us to one planet 🙂
