Thanks to all who took part in our previous challenges. For the last two challenges we started with small objects, first a spark plug then a dried clove, so I thought this week we should go large. Most artists like a blank canvas and today our canvas is a dry, rocky, and barren landscape. What you put in it, to tell us a story, is up to you.
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

Perfect! You're not the only one throwing in a bit of 3D. The Imperial storm trooper spying on the rebel base in my image is a stock 3D model dropped into Photoshop (beta, with the Viewer plugin) after I had the rest of the composite done. The new Substance 3D Viewer isn't as capable as Stager yet but it's a lot faster, and it was enough to set the position, viewpoint, and lighting. I added the blur for a bit of photorealism.

The device bottom left has to be an industrial sized robotic vacuum cleaner. I have set a timer to remind me to come back later, and see how squeeky clean that lunar moonscape is.

It's not cheating at all, particularly as I modelled, textured and rendered the starter image in 3D applications.

Welcome to SFTW critter_monster. I like the new placement of the rocks by the sea. The magpie though, wasn't it "one for sorrow..." ? 🙂
I've used the image widget at the top of the posting box to embed your image in your post so that others can easily see it.

I've had the pleasure of doing "Army Training" in a couple of places that looked just this. Many AI creations using the generative fill obvously look "AI" 7 fingers on a hand, an extra leg here and there. I liked my image because it looked so real. I think I burned thru 24 Generative credits till I got somethink I liked.
I also Just didn't make a rectangular selection- I kinda matched my selection with the terrain- which seemed to make a big difference.

tried to extend the landscape with more depth and fore/background while keeping a consistent atmosphere and stay away a bit from the fancy side 😉
