Hi,
Thanks to everyone who took part in our last 'Blast Off' challenge.
This weekend, we leave industry behind and move to open spaces. 'These mist covered mountains...', sang Mark Knopfler in Brothers in Arms. Well we have our own mist covered mountains here which, I hope, are more peaceful than those in the song. Of course that choice is yours, what will you make with this scene?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

It's a nice change of seasons, Glenn! I'll get my coat on!

I don't wrap my thought processes how all those season changes work, they just do. I wish I had a use for them, I mostly just use them to play around with.

I think this would be a wonderful bg for mammoths to be in it.

JR you have reminded me of that excellent Simon Brodkin prank he played on Trump. He was lucky he didn't get hurt, especially with how a comedian was able bypass the Secret Service security and severely embarrass them. The above link takes you straight to where Simon (real name Lee Nelson) rolls dozens of Swasti#a golf balls onto the green towards Trump and claims they available for sale at the course Club House, but the whole video is thirteen minutes describing how he planed his coup. I think his greatest prank was when he spoofed Britains Got Tallent with a fake contestant that he cynically created ticking all the right boxes. A bit like a Country & Western song cliché. The BGT judges were completely fooled by Simon pretending to be a tone deaf rabbi rapper, and put him through to the next round.

Oh no, not another golf course - they spring up everywhere! It looks like he's going to have to play the ball from where mine would be, if he can find it!

I just thought of Adam Sandler in 'Happy Gilmore!'

In a bit of trivia:
In mid march 1979 on a rainy wednesday evening I was standing at a student union bar commiserating with the lead guitarist of the band booked that night. Sorry, I said, just 30 people in tonight - it's the weather.
He was pragmatic and turned away to nurse his pint whilst the disco played and he awaited their introduction.
The night I met Mark Knopfler - three weeks before Sultans Of Swing catapulted them to fame.

A once in 100 year event captured in SFTW! Nice idea Euan.
Also a nice little anecdote about a very good guitarist. It's amazing what we learn in SFTW! 🙂

Student union bar, and you what?! Love that story.
Thanks for the nudge, Dave. I haven't revisited the debut album for some years now.
Just saw this article: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2025/apr/28/mark-knopfler-dire-straits-money-for-nothing

I remember the "cutting-edge" 3D music video for "Money for Nothing." Wild when I think about how far we've come. xD

This is absolutely stunning, @davescm truly love it! You have such an incredible eye for beauty and detail; every element of your render feels so intentional and breathtaking. I’m genuinely inspired by your work, and I can only hope that my upcoming composite will do justice to the magnificence and artistry you've captured here. It sets a high bar, and I’m both challenged and excited to create something worthy of standing alongside it!

Excellent rain Dean. Is that the Parametric filter effect?
I actually spent a moment or two staring into that rain looking for the thistle before realising it was last week's prairie image. -

Did you spot the ling (including the larger plant at the stones), Trevor?

Thanks Trevor.
I created the rain effect following a tutorial I found a while back. Can't find the exact one I used but the page below looks close to what I do.
First thing is to adjust the brightness and contast of the image to get it darker. Then created a new layer filled with black. Add noise, add a motion blur, change blend to screen. There are other playing around with effects to get it looking to my liking. 🙂

Welcome to SFTW Leigh. The shadow around each character makes it look like the sticker scenes that were around when I was a kid (a long time ago!). I like the way you've removed the tree.
