Thanks to all who participated in our previous, Halloween based, challenge. There were some great ideas and images shared. This week we have something different.
'One hundred and eighty', the highest score with three darts, became famous for the way it was called out by Russ Bray, a professional referee with a unique style to his declaration of the score. So this week, I bring you three darts (actually a 3D render). What will you make with them, 180 or something else entirely?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). It is rendered with a transparent background so no need to create an initial mask.
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!

I love the drawing 🤣
Dave made me laugh when he pointed out that the table under the target was “dangerous”... and this drawing is brilliant!

Mixing it up with our past challenge, JR. That must be where Jame's cat cut its teeth!

A great idea JR. I looked at this and was thinking of how the Enterprise goes into warp, or in this case comes out of warp. I've used a Nukly.com flare for this, but render fibers and Polar Coordinates would do the same thing. But it's not that simple, is it? The flare is symmetrica, but we need a distortion that brings the axis of the imagined cone inline with the Enterpise direction.
You'd need to move the centre of the flare while keeping the outside stationary.
Warp and drag the centre of the flare rather than the handles gets you some of the way there, but is still very wrong.
The best I could do was to copy that warped layer. Set it to Lighten, and rotate and transform some more. Flipping it to get the curves in the right direction. The step that had the biggest effect was to make a rectangular selection of the right side of the merged flare layers, and transform them stretching them out from the center of the flare.
I would dearly love to know if there is a better way to distort the flare affecting its apparent axis?

You're right Trevor, but there are two antimatter reactors. 😉

I'm thinking of that SDtar Trek warp effect. It has changed over the years and used to be less fluid, and more star burst.
The Millennium Falcon had a similae warp effect, but that was close to 50 years ago.

A clever use of the darts in the image, which has then sparked an SFTW side street of its own. Great idea, JR 🙂

That's nearly as disturbing as the darts in the bull's eye animation Bob. Imagine being in a dental surgery that was lit like that? You would so be thinking that it was a cut-throat razor in his hand, and that you would soon be the filling in a tasty Sweeney Tod meat pie. I bet Firefly would refuse to illustrate that!

Ouch! A good bit of lateral thinking to arrive at that one, Bob. 🙂
