Hi,
Thanks to everyone who took part in our previous 'Gavel' challenge. There were some great ideas and very clever interpretations of the gavel.
This week, in the run up to Christmas, I thought we should have a Christmas based theme. Instead of a Christmas tree, which we have used before, I chose a Christmas plant. So we have a 3D render of a Poinsettia. The plant itself is a model from the XFrog plant library, the two gift-wrapped presents are from Adobe Substance 3D Assets. The table, vase and wall, I modelled in Blender. All textures are from Adobe Substance 3D assets and were applied in Adobe Substance Painter. I lit the scene in Blender and rendered it, before taking it into Photoshop for finishing.
Now that we have our Christmas scene, what will you make with it?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave.

I edited the message so that the image can be seen.
"Posting it as an attachment is showing an error and we can't see your image."
In I don't remember which forum, Sil replied that this problem is due to the upcoming platform change.
We have to live with it in the meantime.

You've given the train from the earlier challenge the full treatment there, Derek. Summer into winter, Santa Claus, the Poinsettia in the smoke stack. The wallpaper as a doormat outside the footplate of the loco is an excellent touch. 🙂

I thought that a little nostalgia was appropriate. Happy Holidays, everyone!

You've squeezed a good few previous challenge objects into that one Alan. We'll run out of bonus points, unless Santa has some in his sleigh! 🙂
It has impressed me how everone has managed to separate the plant from the background so effectively in this challenge. A few years back it would have taken a lot of time and patience and the results may still have been a bit 'iffy'.

No kidding! We've all spent long hours with channels and Calculations and Apply Image and all that. Now it takes a few seconds. Select Subject, Copy to new layer, done.
Merry Christmas!

Wow, that's impressive. I am tempted to guess it was Eye Candy 7, but EC7 would be way less subtle, so Gemini 3.0 is my best guess. What an amazimg time we live in as image content creators.

A little NYC holiday spirit. :). Ive never gotten LV as a gift but figured it would make some cool wrapping paper. Knick snow globe and a couple of decorations for Christmas vibes. Peace to all!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for sharing this challenge! I really like the Poinsettia scene you made it looks very festive and detailed. I think it’s cool how you combined models from different sources and did all the texturing and lighting yourself.
I’m excited to try this challenge. I’m still learning, but it looks like a fun way to practice and get creative with a Christmas theme. Can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with too!
Thanks again for setting this up.
