Hi
The pic below is of Hadrian's wall, or part of what is left of it now. It was built between 122AD and 128AD and was a fortification at the northern limit of the Roman Empire. It stretched 73 miles from coast to coast and was 3 metres wide and between 5 and 6 metres high. Every Roman mile, which is slightly less than a modern mile, there was a milecastle and between each milecastle two turrets. Beyond that wall, to the North (or left on this picture) lived what were described as the Barbarians - in reality Ancient Britons including the Picts.
So the challenge for this week. Can you either show us what it might have looked like at the time of the Roman Empire or what use we could put it to now?
As usual the "rules" are few:
Anything goes as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to have a go - whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.
There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy - come and have a go!
When posting back your edited images please use jpeg and downsize to 1200px on the long side.
To download the image below in jpeg format with ICC color profile (sRGB) and without the forum scaling artefacts , right click and then use Save Image As /Save Target As (or similar depending on your browser).
Enjoy!
Dave

I'm also not putting much focus on perspective and proportion. Just putting forward what may be another concern beyond Trump and the Migrant Caravan.

I was well on the way with this weeks entry, and then...my video driver crashed on me. First time ever, or at least since 2012.
So instead of a new STFW contribution, which I lost, I decided to try and find out what happened. It's pretty hard to explain, so I made this little storyboard to visualize it. Hope this makes it a little clearer:
I swear to god, officer, that's what happened, I was just minding my own business...

Bob, I love the mono-rail.
Apologies for completely ignoring the perspective and relative sizes with this one.

I thought a few people would think about Trump and the Migrant Caravan, so I whipped off a quick and dirty version.

Ignoring perspective is the only way to properly illustrate that. Common sense, truth and decency have already left the building.

Hi
They are flying in this week.
JJMack - I cry foul ! You've altered the ground !
Jane - I hope that bike is still there when you get back
OldBob - Brilliant - that train just fits perfectly !
Rista - Clever - it does look like a war game.
Trevor - I see you've gone for the Cecille B DeMille size cast for your image. Then followed up with the roadrunner - I like it.
USSNorway - Another on the American wall theme. We could ship ours over if required.
Dag - We get a full comic book story from you and , just a second, a Quadro ...crashed ??????
Great stuff - keep them coming

To be perfectly honest, it didn't - but I was desperate. I had two hours, and I couldn't think of anything to do with that wall. I needed an idea fast, and it seemed like a good idea at the time

Hi
Dag - I should have known. A Quadro crash just had to be a work of fiction
Dean - Welcome to SFTW, I am glad you showed the pre-fall picture. Think of the kids , they wouldn't be able to look at the post fall carnage!
Jerry - I see that, as well as adding the Alpaca, you've moved the wall and extended the Roman empire.

Dag, I did try and do something The Migrant Mother. Perhaps use a small section of Dave's source image, But I couldn't think how to make it work. The punch line would be around Trump's assertion that the Caravan is made up of criminals and Middle eastern terrorists. There are more options now Trump has come close to saying the the military can shoot anyone in The Caravan who throws stones. I can barely talk about this because it makes me so angry!
It would feel wrong to edit the Migrant Mother photograph, so you'd have to contrive some sort of window or frame to avoid selections and masks of the original.
BTW I love the idea of using a comic strip, and I absolutely wish I'd thought of it first.
Bugger. Sometimes you just have to get on and do it.,

Dean, welcome to SFTW. A nice entry. Now we need All the King's Horses, and All the King's Men, to put poor Humpty together again.
It's past my bedtime, or I'd add some identity to the tank.
Dag. Don't knock it. Like I said. I am totally envious I didn't think of a comic book approach weeks ago.

For some reason alpaca came to mind. Then a quick search showed there are lots of alpaca farms north of the wall.

The migrant mother...yes, this is one of those photographs that changed the way we look at the world. Or if it hasn't, it should. We should put it up, billboard size, in all of our cities.

Changing the perspective is what makes it art, Trevor.

Actually Trevor, that is more appropriate (to Trump's way of thinking) than you may know.
In ancient times (Sumer, Akkad, Egypt, right up through Rome), in wall murals, reliefs, and other art, a person's size was relative to their "importance". Thus the King/Queen/Pharaoh would be the largest figure, officials smaller, commoners smaller yet, and servants and slaves tiny.
As I said; to Trump's way of thinking (excuse me -- "thinking" -- I want that in quotes), your picture is entirely appropriate.
And that is your history lesson for the week. There will be a quiz...
