Something for the weekend - Part 49 - In the box!

Hi

This old signal box is at Beamish open air museum in the North East of England. The box was relocated from Carr House near Consett where it had been working since 1896.

So the challenge this week  is - can you bring this old signal box back to life - or give it a new purpose entirely?

As always, anything goes as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to have a go - whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.

There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

When posting back your edited images please use jpeg and downsize to 1200px on the long side.

To download the image below in jpeg format with ICC color profile (sRGB) and without the forum scaling artefacts , right click and then use Save Image As /Save Target As (or similar depending on your browser).

Enjoy !

Dave

    Dave, Jane,

Now it is proven that it is, indeed, the Stealth Mug (that being the actual article name, which carried the SKU no. AB-207 five years and a half ago (May 2013) when I received four of them along with some other nice items from the (then) Adobe gift store as my very first punishment for posting all sorts of silly things in mainly the Illustrator forum (and some other forums, most of which since then retired); that was before the complimentary gift started to be Amazon gift vouchers/certificates. It took a total of 28 photos, and days of waiting for the right weather (and trying out), to get just the right stealth level between completely stealthy and too obvious (and to choose the right direction of lighting, sillily starting out with (slightly back/side)light from the left corresponding to the light coming from the windows at the back towards the footbridge); the actual one being taken in a hazy sunlight this forenoon, just before midday.

I would move the cup over on top of the cd and make it look like a coaster... would also add a spot light to the cup face because its too dark to really be in that room space.

I do like the idea behind it and I was going to add a coffee machine to mine but it would draw the eye away from the man so I went with the fake plant instead

I doubt it is a CD from that long ago . Probably a token for single track working, there is a token pouch hanging at the end of the levers.

Semaphoric   ROTFL!   That really made me laugh out loud.   Would we call this Steam Punk for its mixture of old and new?  And what a range of space vehicles you've gathered in one place!  The XD-1 (Space Odyssey), Millennium Falcon, and early Enterprise (NCC 1701 from the Kirk years).  I wish I could identify the Shuttle, but I think it is a generic illustration from 3DSculptor, so hard to say.  Chuck would know if anyone does.

I really thought it was a tough starter image this week, but it seems making people think a bit harder generates some outstanding ideas.

[EDIT]  Clever use of the ringed planet to contrast two of the ships against.  Was that deliberate, or a happy accident?

Noel, I've just seen this picture of you getting ready for the trip to work.

I guess you had to leave your main system back in Florida?

Is that the Lutsen mountain range in the background?

Yeah, that's my laptop.  The old one that heats the room.

I see winter has arrived at the station...  Better get the plow train warmed up.

When I first saw the signal box picture, I have to say I thought it a difficult one to work with, but we are not short of entries.  Just three more for SFTW's first birthday.  How about that?!!

    Hi

Jacob - I seem to be detecting a theme in your SFTW images .

Rista - Nice job with the ghost train.

USSNorway - He is obviously deciding which lever to pull.  Thanks for the links, it is good to acknowledge the source of some of these elements as it helps others who might want to have a go.

Trevor - brilliant idea, nicely done !

Dean - Congratulations your are the first SFTW this year to get a Christmas theme in with your Santa. I see humpty is making another of his regular appearances!

Keep them coming - all are welcome to take part.

    Dave,

I am afraid that, had you seen Heartbeat, you would have been forwarned that it would be stronger than I, with basically the same railway station (only 60 years newer): there have been so many lively encounters at/in the railway station(s), including train robbing/hijacking/other dangers, also including station masters fighting and even dying (one or two, I believe) to defend different parts of the station including the levers; the encounter outside behind the desk shows Nick meeting Greengrass (with Blaketon literally leaning on him) for the very first time in the very first episode, a worried David behind the lever set (admittedly an addition (taken from another event)).

By the way, as I suspect you know, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, formerly known as the Whitby and Pickering Railway (opened in 1836), still connects the stations of the Heartbeat heartland from Pickering to Whitby (as in SFTW48), and it still includes Aidensfield (under its cover name Goathland).

This might been seen at MAX when it was held in Las Vegas

[EDIT]  I fixed the poorly warped cylinder and replaced the image.  Thank goodness for Smart Objects, and Lazy Nezumi
