Something for the Weekend - Part 92 - Going Underground.

Hi

There were some brilliant ideas in last week's cabin and woods challenge. For this week though we have had enough fresh air and are going urban, specifically into the subway. I created and rendered this image in Blender 3D, and used Adobe Substance for texturing.

Now the scene is set, what will you do with it? What story will you tell with your edited image? You can do anything you like, just don't get mugged!

 The “rules”:

  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

To download the image below in jpeg format at 3000 x 2000 pixels and with an embedded ICC colour profile (sRGB), hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser)

Have fun.

This is very beautiful and well done, Dave. The details are impeccable — right down to the cigarette butts and chewed up gum that someone seems to have littered across your otherwise lovely floor! 😊

Thank you Jane. My jaw is still aching after all that chewing gum!

The cigarette butts were taken from a scene I modelled previously. The gum used Adobe Substance Painter's new decal feature.

Not only did your all that chewing gum make your jaw ache, Dave, but it broke my grabber and I had to use my fingernails to clean it all up. I had to do it, though, so she can be safe while she plays in the subway station.

  • Nice job on the clean up Jane. Is all as innocent as it looks though, or is she a mugger in disguise  >:)

Maybe you are confusing her with Patty McCormack, aka Rhoda Penmark, Dave? Except she wasn't a mugger either — she was a murderer!

This toddler is as innocent as she appears, and is just going off to play.

Jane,

It is shown on the rather large poster made by Dr. Gum here,

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/something-for-the-weekend-part-92-going-underground/m-p/111...

opposite to the one with the whisky/gunpowder station at Fort George,

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/something-for-the-weekend-part-82-roll-out-the-barrel/m-p/1...

You can see the DR-1200 in use in the following video made by Dr. Gum; the whole collection shown on their poster appears briefly at 3:29 - 3:30.

They also have the compact lightweight Gum Broom,

Thanks for the lesson on perspective and scaling, Dave. She is a proper size now, and no longer a monster toddler! 😊

That sinking feeling.  Borrowed from an idea by Alaxandra Offe's Samu Social Sinking Streets campaign for the homeless people of Paris.

There was something on our news last night, about moving the homeless who sleep on New York trains overnight, off the trains so they could fumigate them (the trains, not the homeless).  That seemed pointless unless they tested everyone who got on the train after fumigating it.  I see that a couple of the White House have tested positive, and they are all being tested every day, and I don't see that ending well.  Mean while Kim Jung Un locked himself in the toilet for three weeks, and had his meals pushed under the door.  Even that was a waste of time because they have several Kim Jung Un clones, so if one them goes down with covid-19, they wheel out another clone.  They are the only people in the entire country who get to eat decent sized meals (secretly imported Big Macs and fizzy pop).

A poignant image Trevor, I took a look at some of Alexandra Offe's work and she certainly has some clever ideas.

One thing though, is the man standing up to his knees at the foot of the steps a giant? He'd have to bend over if he was standing on the floor rather than in it ! 🙂

To help anyone else with scaling, a 6ft person would be as shown as below in different parts of the scene. The camera "lens" in Blender is set to an equivalent of 26mm focal length on 35mm film

If you have the time and inclination, Dave, can you scale your model to a couple of inches less than 6' and place it on the bottom step on the left side?
