Question

Sometimes, Object Selection is automatically deselected

Issue

  • Photoshop version: 23.4.2
  • OS: Window10

Steps to reproduce:

i don't know how reproduce.

But what I remember is that there were about four or five layers, and I tried object selection(Lasso) on a particular layer in the middle.

Expected resultAs everyone knows, the point where I drew the object selection should be selected.
Actual resultIt is not selected.

To be more precise, it's work, but it's also auto-deselected.

I usually turn off the history window, so I froze for about 20 seconds. What's happening? I tried it over and over again thinking that's what I thought.

However, as soon as it was selected, I saw that the selection was automatically released, and I felt something was wrong, so I checked the history and found that the history was automatically attached to it.

Yes, the solution was simple. When such a bug occurs, you can manually cancel the Redo one space back from the history.

But this should also be reported as a bug because it happens occasionally.

Let me summarize it briefly.

Object Selection(lasso mode) -> Select Work, But also Automatically Deselected.

-> Turn On History tab, manually Undo "Deselect" -> Now it's work...

@Erin26  I didn't check every bug time, so I'm not sure, but when I only saw it, it was "new selection."

I just turned on Photoshop to reproduce and test the bug, but now it crashes as soon as I press object selection. I sent the report.

It seems that a lot of things are twisted in the object selection. For today's work, I'll use iMac instead of Windows computer. Windows seems to have a lot of problems right now...

@Jqqerry,

Would you please copy the Help > System Info from Photoshop and share it in this thread? Thank you.

@Jqqerry ,

When this happens, what selection type is active in the options bar (i.e. New selection, Add to Selection, Subtract from Selection, Intersect with Selection)?

I thought I was the only one suffering from these symptoms. Thank you for your temporary solution...

Is Adobe fixing this bug?

I am also experiencing this bug after updating to 23.4.2.

I always save my work history in psd file, so I turned off Photoshop every time there was a bug like that.

The temporary solution you suggested was also very effective. I hope it's fixed soon...

In my case, there was a bug like that even when there was no layer.
