Spacebar Shortcut: Hand Tool Showing But Not Working

I recently got a new laptop computer and installed Photoshop 2019. It has Windows 10 Home Edition on it. When I try to use the Spacebar Shortcut for the Hand Tool, it shows the Hand Tool but does not work. I have already tried resetting everything in Photoshop, made sure a browser was not open when using the shortcut, disabled my antivirus program.  I am not sure what else to try?

Hi Drew,

That does not sound like a typical Photoshop experience, let's fix it!

As the space bar is showing but not working, could you please try Barbara's suggestion and let us know if it helps?

Are you using a tablet with Photoshop? If yes, could you try updating it's drivers?


Have you checked if there is any extension in the web browser that might be conflicting with Photoshop and not letting the Spacebar handtool work as expected?

Try closing all apps and only run Photoshop to see if the handtool works.

Just to clarify, the Hand Tool works fine when selecting it like with the "h" key. Its only when I try to use it using the spacebar shortcut. You can see the Hand Tool but it does not work.

Make sure that you are not in full screen mode.

Try turning on Overscroll in Tools preferences.
