Spring loading hotkey feature issue

Community Beginner ,
Apr 22, 2025 Apr 22, 2025

Hello Spring Loaded hotkey feature experts .

I'm a professional digital painter that works in Animation. I just got a new computer and I use the spring loaded Hockey feature all the time in Windows 10 for the eyedroper tool. I just need a very quick eyedroper selection to get a hue and value of a color then continue to paint in other tools. The issues is it doesn't seem to work very well with the smudge tool or the lasso tool. The spring loded feature springs back only sometimes or just permanently stays on the eyedropper tool. Since I need to move quickly not springing back to smuge or lasso destroys my workflow with only needing a quick sample of a hue and value of a color.  Please help me.

Adjust the timing here:

If it stays on the new tool you've been too quick and need to hold it longer, or adjust the threshold time down.

Hi @rueping,

Thanks for reaching out! I agree with the suggestions shared by @D Fosse — reducing time sensitivity in Preferences might help resolve the issue.

If that doesn’t work, could you please share a few more details to help us troubleshoot further?

  • Your operating system and Photoshop version

  • Whether the issue occurs with a specific file or happens with new files as well.

Regards,

Srishti

Also, FYI,

There is an alternate shortcut for painting tools: Alt to sample the color.

there is also the hud color picker: https://photoshoptrainingchannel.com/tips/hud-color-picker/
