Hello,
For the longest time i used PS 2015 (if it isnt broke, dont fix it)
Recienltly purchased a new iMac, so I was forced to upgrade to PS 2020
In PS 2015, when selecting the "smudge" tool, I used to be able to select a specific brush that I wanted to use, "splatter46" for example, and then do my thing.
Now in PS 2020, I select the "smudge" tool, click on the brushes and the dropdown is no longer familliar to the 2015 layout, and then when I select the splatter brush, or "kyle" splatter (who is Kyle?) brush, the tool switches to a paintbrush tool and I no longer have the ability to "smudge".
I need splatter smudge!
Please tell me that I am missing a setting or something.
And please tell me that I can get the "old school 2015" brush panel back. This 2020, scroll-click to open folder, scroll-click to open folder, scroll-click to open folder, scroll-click to open folder, to view the brushes is annoying.
Thanks

Kyle is Kyle T. Webster. He used to sell his brush packs separately, but now he works for Adobe and his brushes are included with a CC subscription.

Thanks for the reply.
Ok, got the Cmd Opt to work, but now the 2020 brush does not have the same effect as the 2015 brush effect.
2015 - Tool:"Smudge" - Brush:"Splatter" - default, out of the box, no adjustmet to the brush. Just made a rectangle, clicked "smudge" selected "splatter" and then.... Hey look! Smudges! 🙂
2015 Tool:"Smudge" - Brush:"Splatter"
2020 - Tool:"Smudge" - Brush:"Splatter" - Same steps as above, but added the additioal step of cmd+opt when selecting Kyles brush, and.......doesn't smudge 😞
(gonna have to get with this guy Kyle about his brush)
2020 Tool:"Smudge" - Brush:"Splatter"
Im sure im missing something simple here..... or maybe not.
Also, is there a way to get this beautiful, simple, non complex, no scrolling and clicking a bunch of folders to view what the brushes are, window back?
2015 simple window
Thanks again!

Unfortunately, not for me, or at least at the beginning. I guess that would be relative to the task at hand.
I use PS for very simple image adjustments, manipulations, blending, text work, and so-forth. Not enough to go too deep into the program, but more than what was available in PS Elements (or whatever it's called these days) I don't paint or make pictures from scratch, I literally "Photo-Shop" 🙂
My task in PS 2015 picture above was accomplished in 2 mouse clicks with the default brush set. Now it seems I need to sort through 17 different folders just to find the shape, hold command click, open the brush settings and adjust various parameters, then create and save a new brush, all to accomplish the same 2 click solution above. It makes me feel like I'm driving all the way around the block just to simply cross the street, with my dad in the car yelling at me to "Quit all this Tom foolery and just make a damn u-turn, would ya?". Again, as I am new to the 2020 version, there may be something real simple stupid in a setting or a drop down that I am missing.
But I do appreciate the reply, as it helped get the old default brush set back. And that a start in the right direction!

did you ever find a solution, Aaron?
this is driving me NUTS. I used to "try out" different brushes when erasing or smudging (or burning or dodging). Click around and see what it looks like, until i find one i like. this new system where i need create new brush presets and adjust their settings so that I can keep using the tool i was using is maddening.
I'm stunned they would destroy the way i've used phtooshop for 20 years and not have some sort of "or you can just turn this tool-swapping crap off" option.

Hi Warren,
Sorry for the late reply, the notification email went to my spam.
No, I never found a soloution as I have switched to Affinity Photo, as for what I do, it works fine... and it's way cheaper! 🙂
Best of luck.
