Storage of source raw files - internal or external?

Hi

From a performance perspective, what's the recommendation for storing source raw files pre-editing in Photoshop/Lightroom?

Should I keep these on my internal drive, or use my external SSD drive?

Thanks

Richard

Correct answer davescm

There is a small additional risk of corruption on an external drive if the connection is not absolutely solid.

I save to local drives and back up to external drives (the back up routine verifies the back up so I know it is OK).

Due to the sheer volume of raw files I work on, all of my files are stored on external drives. That said, I run multiple backup systems to ensure everything is safe.

With modern SSD drives, I doubt you'll see any performance issues.

You can use both and you won't see a lot of difference (if you see a difference at all).

Hi

I don't use Lightroom, but for me I work off a separate internal SSD to the OS and keep backups on both internal and external HDD's
