Straightening a curved object

I need to make the branch in the attached photo straight and the leaves appropriately branching off as they do now.  I've been trying puppet warp for a while now and I cannot get good results.  Is there method or options that would help?

Puppet Warp seems pretty OK to me.

    You could re-draw this from scratch in five minutes. You are making things unnecessarily complicated.
