Question

Stroke shape subpath

Hello, I'm trying to stroke subpaths added to a shape.  After completing an open, unfilled shape with a stroke, I switch to combine shapes and go to the shape path. When I add an additional path, it closes the first path, which I do not want, and the new path segments don't recieve the shape stroke.  What am I missing here?

I found a work around by making the shape a continuous path, adding anchor points in the unwanted segments, and then deleting those to get rid of the unwanted segments. This works as I want it to, but I'm wondering why the method I mentioned above doesn't work.  Thanks!

If you want to work extensively with Paths you should use Illustrator, Photoshop is primarily an image editing program.

As for your specific issue:

Shape Layers with a Stroke and more than one subPathItem treat them all as closed. That’s just the way it is at current, feel free to add your vote to a Feature Request

And where are the screenshots?

You are not missing anything the paths combine and the shape is stroked. Try combining path with mode exclude stroke e path but do not fill the shape.
