Stuck on "Loading Photoshop Format"

When opening PSD files, the app freezes and just says "Reading photoshop format" but never actually opens the files. During this time, I am unable to do anything in the app aside from close it. I've tried resetting preferences, redownloading the app, etc and none of it seems to work. I try to open psd files and it just freezes with that "Reading photoshop format" text.

Are you saving to an external drive or over a network?

My scratch is on C: but the files I have tried are in fact in an external drive... never had an issue until now

(the other issue is that the few RAW files I have are not going to camera raw first, like it always has done)

Try saving them on C and see if the same thing happens.

Working directly to an external drive is always risky. It usually works, but unpredictable problems can happen, and the risk of corruption is always higher. The recommended procedure is to save on a local drive, then copy over.

Is it just one specific file that cannot be opened, or is the issue occurring with any PSD file?

Same thing is happening to me but on Win11 Ps 2024 v25.7... It is happening when I open almost any file except not even a "loading" message (either directly from Lightroom or from the computer...) and sometimes when it decides to open a RAW file, it won't open it on Camera Raw first like it always does.
