Successfully installed CS6 on new Win10 computer.

I thought I'd share my (successful) experience reinstalling CS6 apps on a new computer running Windows 10.

I am a CC subscriber but still use a few CS6 apps (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, PremierePro) when working with old files/projects. Having read many claims of difficulties reinstalling/activating CS6 I was very worried I would be unable to continue using them. The process turned out to be a LOT easier than I had expected!

I used two ISO files (ISO images of the original install media) for the installation and Windows 10 "mounted" each as if they were DVD's and assigned a drive letter (G). The only glitch was when the installer expected the second "DVD" (ejected the first ISO image and mounted the second) to have the same drive letter and Windows had assigned H instead of G. Using Windows 10 "Disk Management" I changed the drive letter of the pseudo DVD drive to "G" and the installation then proceeded normally.

For the activation I was prompted to log in to my Adobe account and enter a code that was sent to the email address associated with my Adobe ID (ie: 2-factor authentication). The software then activated.

The next step was to check for updates and everything updated without a problem. All apps (Bridge, ACR, Photoshop, PremierePro, Dreamweaver) were updated to the same versions as was on the retired computer (Yes, I remembered to deactivate them before moving to the new PC.)

I had no problem activating the new CS6 installation nor doing the updates. Note that this is with Windows 10 and not Windows 11 which I will delay installing for as long as I can.

I hope this will comfort those needing access to some CS6 apps to access old projects and worry that upgrading to a new PC will eliminate that part of your workflow. FWIW I did this with a full retail version that I legitimately own. Perhaps Adobe has made changes to how they activate and update their older software, but I had no problems whatsoever 🙂

@Russell Proulx thanks for the clear instructions for installing CS6 on Windows. I found an old copy of CS6 for the MAC (original CD's with the serial numbers) - no use for them as I have CC, but it's momento that I bring to class to show and talk about packaging and design and how cool Adobe is!

You do realize you would need a Mac running High Sierra (MacOS 10.13.6, Intel procesor) or earlier to use CS6 on a Mac. I still have my Photoshop v2.5 (for Windows) big heavy boxed set of floppy disks, manuals and cool extra stuff. It's 32bit so it wont work with 64bit Windows. LP record packaging was cool back then too.

LA PLUS RÉCENTE

Hi, i'm new here. Felt a bit nostalgic when u mentioned CS2. That's my last run in with Photoshop which i loved dearly however these upgraded PCs is of course not compatible with that program (CDs etc). So here I am, a lil lost in the woods.

Thank you @Russell Proulx !

For others who read this, note that Adobe does not reset activations and you need to have at least one activation available.
