template creating how to?

Hy Everyone, 

im new in photoshop (personal use).

I'd like to make a template out of an image i did before. 

Example: i've made a picture and inside this picture are some cut outs (2 rectangle) the size of the picture is also dedicated to a specipif size choose from me.

Now mo purpose is to make an a template out of this picture that i can use to cut out a second immage.

So i mean, i make a second image and i put on top of this image my previous generated template and i'd like that photoshop cut out everything out as the same as the previous picture (template) was. 

 

is that possible and how to do that?

Exactly i'm speaking of an immage about 13x18cm big and two rectangle cut outs (one smaller, the other one biger)

You might also look at the Frame Tool. You can drop an image into the frame and it will conform to your layout.

If this is a template, then the white rectangles are not well aligned, so you might want to drag out some guides (from the Rulers — Ctrl R)

Save this as a template as advised.  I am not aware of how to do this directly with Save As, so I save as a .PSD, and manually add the T (.PSDT) in File Explorer.

 

We'd love to see what you make with this.

    but for me is like to read everything in a foreign language... 

    dont really understand  something about  you all say 🙂

    Any document can be saved as a template. Just save as type *****.psdt
    So create your first document and make sure your image is in a smart object. Save it as a template (psdt). Then open it, double click on the smart object and replace the image within it with your new image. The other layers, masks etc remain unchanged. Save it as psd (leave the t off this time as you are not creating another template)

      I second Dave's suggestion! As quoted, editing the smart object and drag-n-drop or copy/paste of the new data would avoid any sizing issues with mismatched resolution PPI metadata and the pixel sizing would be used over the print sizing.

       

      Resolution PPI metadata (print size) affects consistent sizing of Smart Objects when placing, replacing or relinking. If your original template Smart Object placeholder was at 72 PPI, if you swapped it for another image that had a resolution of 144 PPI, if you used Layer > Smart Objects > Replace Content... or Relink to File... then the replacement image would be half size, even if it was the same pixel dimensions. One would then need to press the "Reset Transforms" button in the Properties panel to restore the pixel sizing over print sizing.

      You want to place pics inside of the rectangles, right?? Easy peasy - you use something called knock out. 

      Bottom layer can't be a background, must be a regular layer.

      Double click on the empty space in the rectangle layer to bring up the layer style box and set fill opacity to 0 and Knockout to deep. You can save as a png and use it as a template. 

      If you want to keep it as a PSD file, place the layers in a group and set the knock out to shallow, then you can add a layer below the group and will it will show.

      Hi Melissa,

      sry i miss explained myself. 

      The image i post in my help request... imagine it as a template... the size of the image (13x18cm) and the size of the rectangles also as the position of the rectangle.. should be "transfered " in an other picture.. so i dont have to place the rectangles everytime again... 

      imagine i have an image of 30x30cm... but i would like to cut of it the size of my template... so 13x18cm and the rectangles also... the rest of the 30x30cm i dont need...

       

      i hope i could explain myself better this time and again thank you for your help
