Question

Text changes color when I click on it

Hi. I'm having an issue with text changing color on it's own.

I recently got a new laptop and had the same Photoshop version installed as I had on my last one. I never changed any settings on either of them. I transferred my projects from my old to my new laptop, and when I click to edit text that's already there, it changes color on it's own.

Currently, the color is dark green but when I click it instantly changes to light green and there is no way I can color it back.

I tried going through the settings on both laptops making sure that the settings are same, but that doesn't help either. Went through countless forums and videos but nothing helps 😞

This is work related so it's super important to me!

What up is Adobe changed the way the text object works. If you are on the layer and you select another color it will change the text color. Yes, this is new and it SUCKS!!!! Part of it is because the programmers at Adobe do not use the program. And the other part is they like to change things just to change things.

The problem is THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS!!!

Do you hear me Adobe???? We use this as a pro tool. Not for messing around. Stop. I mean stop changing basic functions that add to our workload!!!!!

As you did not even mention the Swatches Panel or post meaningful screenshots it took me a while to reproduce the issue.

The behaviour indeed seems to be different in Photoshop CC 2019.

What is the workflow in which you need to change the Foreground Color with a Type Layer selected?

Please tell us which version of Photoshop you have installed. (Help > About) "Same" doesn't help us.

What version of Windows do you have installed? What did you have before?

There are several things you didn't say:

  • Is your text live text or raster?
  • Is it on its own layer?
  • Which tool are you using when you click on it?
  • Are you selecting the text when you click on it?
  • What color does the Character panel (Window menu) say the color is?

Screenshots will help us to help you.
