Question

Text layer turning into background layer.

I was working on a project and a large amount of text is required.

As I went to look back on my project, my text layers had become background layers.

I need to edit the text but I cannot and it makes a new text layer.

If you left your file open maybe you can go back to the text layer in the History panel.

Otherwise there is no way to change the layer back to a text layer.

In your screenshot the active layer is not a Background layer. Also it is not a Text layer so that's why a new Text layer is made when you click on the text with te Text tool.

Thank you for your reply.

Is there a way to change the active layer to a text layer?

The active layer was a text layer before but it mysteriously changed to another kind.

Please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):

What is this supposed to describe? Did you close the file? In which file format did you save it? Etc.

Please post meaningful screenshots including ALL pertinent Panels to illustrate the goings-on.

Doing layouts with large quantities of text in Photoshop does not seem a natural choice.

I closed the file in a .psd format then the text layer changed into a background layer.
