This happened after a system update. The first click when using a brush or paint bucket will always be black. The colour will be updated to the original colour I have selected after zooming in or out, clicking again or changing layer visibility. The bucket tool also reacts weirdly with other colours. This bug only occurs on darker colours. I have tried resetting my prefrences, uninstailling and reinstalling. As a student, this bug is very time consuming and can mess with my colour scheme planning. Help will be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi @Keverne, thanks for taking the time to make the videos. I can't duplicate the issue myself (Windows 10). In Preferences under Technology Previews, try checking “Deactivate Native Canvas” and/or “Older GPU mode” to see if it makes any difference. Be sure to restart Photoshop to have those changes take effect.

More ideas since a Preferences reset didn't work: the latest version is now Photoshop: 24.4.1. Can you try updating to see if the problem is still happening? Also, have you updated your GPU driver to the latest version?

If these fixes don't change anything and the issue persists, from Photoshop, under the Help menu, select System Info and then copy/paste the text in a reply here. We will take a look to see if we can figure out what's going on!

Thank you very much! The issue have been fixed by checking “Deactivate Native Canvas” and/or “Older GPU mode”. I cannot express enough with words how thankful I am.

Hi @Keverne

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Restore your preferences using this manual method:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
