This Target / Crosshair symbol suddenly appeared

Hi,

This 'target symbol' appeared more or less out of nowhere. I think it may have happened after using the eyedropper tool. There is a little 1 in the bottom right corner as well. I can only see it when the layer is active.

What is it and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks

Could you please include the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) in screenshots?

That appears to be a Color Sampler (and should also be indicated in the Info Panel).

It can be removed by clicking »Clear All« with the Color Sampler Tool.

the only problem with this answer is that I don't have a "clear all" button next to the "point sample" button?

the only buttons I have are "sample all layers" & "sample ring".

while I can turn sample ring off, doing that doesn't remove the crosshairs image from being stamped all over the image now?

Please select the Color Sampler Tool instead of the Eyedropper Tool and post screenshots.

This may help illustrate the connection to the Info Panel.

Thanks. Opening the color sampler and 'clear all' did it.

I had Caps lock on. When I turned it off it changed back to eyedropper and visa versa.
