Threshold disappears on exports

When I export a document into a PDF or try to save the PSD file the threshold from the original document stops working and it only shows on PSD files. Is there a fix for this?

Can you please show an example?
Either I don't understand your problem - or I can't reproduce it on my computer.

Adobe Acrobat - PDF (with PS in the background for comparison)

Thanks for the reply, yeah I am relatively new to photoshop and have been playing around but as you can see in the photoshop screenshot the threshold works but in the jpeg it doesn't. I have tried exporting to different types of files and it seems to be the same every time. Thanks once again!

I am a little confused. At the beginning you talk about PSD/PDF and now about PSD/JPEG.

Unfortunately, I can't see where in your PSD the threshold is applied. But since you are most likely overlaying a smart object above with reduced opacity and possibly with a blend mode, please try the following:
Before saving/exporting your file as a JPEG, activate the top layer and press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E. (This will create a merged copy of all visible layers above the active layer).

Does the appearance of the file change? If not, then save this version as a JPEG.

I tried this and the appearance does change and the threshold stops working again. Not sure if it is clear but on the mans face when the top layer is hidden, the threshold works but when it is showing, the threshold seems to dissapear. Sorry for the confusion about file types etc I just tried exporting lots of different types to see if it changed anything but it didn't work.

As @c.pfaffenbichler has already said: Always compare effects at 100% zoom - not at 11.7% and not at 112%.

Question:
Is there a change at 100% view when you create a merged copy of all visible layers?

Then save this merged layer in the file format of your choice. The 100% view is binding. However, the view in other zoom levels will always differ from this.

Could you please post screenshots taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible of the layered image and the flattened image?

Forgive me if I have done it wrong 😕 I am relatively new to photoshop. The appearance doesn't seem to change here and the issue could be something other than the threshold but I can't think of what it could be. Thanks for your help!
