thumbnails of flattened tiff files showing up as selection layer.

Question

I shoot architcture. When dropping in windows for example, I will select the window and drop in another exposure. I then do all my editing, flatten the image and save as tiff. Occasionally the thumbnails show only the selection of the window and not the full image. When opened in PS, the image looks fine, but the thumbnail does not. Any advice?

Check your channels palette for whether there are any custom channels/ selections plus also check your layers palette for active/ selected layer masks PS somehow seems to use those for generating thumbnails at times. Deselecting and cleaning custom selections often fixes it. Also try Save a Copy... or other such functions that force PS to re-evaluate and flatten the image for building the thumbnail of the newly generated file.
