Hello,

I have TIF files that has to be converted to TIFF files.  Normally because it are always 5 to 10 pics I use adobe Bridge to do it.  When he saves this the extention is become TIF, also when I do it from my adobe Photoshop.  Now we need to upload pictures to a certain platform from a shop and it don't accept TIF only TIFF.  Is there an easy way to convert them correctly to TIFF are is there a problem with my preferences?  For now I don't find the solution.  Thanks for your feedback !

    A bit of history:

Way back in the Dark Ages, Microsoft DOS-based PCs (including early versions of Microsoft Windows) were limited to 3-character extensions. Macs never had that limit, nor were extensions even required. Mac users only honored the 3-character extension when they planned to share files with PCs.

    Due to that limit:

    • Tagged Image File Format was .tif in MS DOS/Windows and .tiff in macOS
    • Joint Expert Photographers Group was .jpg in MS DOS/Windows and .jpeg in macOS

DOS also limited filenames to 8 characters.

Thankfully, Microsoft was eventually able to get rid of the 8.3 limitation which Mac never had.

The short answer to your question has already been said: simply rename the files from .tif to .tiff. There is no "conversion".

It is just a file extension, 3 character codes are more common/compatible/standard. For example, Photoshop saves as .JPG while Bridge saves as .JPEG which creates issues for Photoshop. Same file format, different extension – same for .TIF or .TIFF format. Presuming the actual TIFF options/settings are correct and it is just a case of renaming...

If you are on a Mac, the Finder has an easy way to replace/rename multiple files.

Otherwise Bridge can be used to Batch rename:

    Option 1:

    Option 2:

Yea, the 3 character extension is a holdover, when DOS and Windows computers could only use 3 characters. Not the case now.

They are the same file, just different extensions, just like jpg and jpeg. If it really is an issue, use bridge to do a batch name change - you can type in a new extension that way.
