TIFFs created in Photoshop Appear Only as PS Work Path When Dropped Into InDesign/Illustrator

I have run into an issue I've never experienced before when trying to drag and drop or Place a TIFF into InDesign or Illustrator.

I created an image in Photoshop using work paths to clip out part of objects in the image and Saved As Copy to TIFF.  Then when I attempt to either drag and drop the image from Mac Finder into InDesign or attempt to File>Place image into InDesign the result image is what appears to be just a work path used in the original Photoshop file as seen in the below image.

Strange part is that the TIFF previews normaly in Finder and when I first drag it into InDesign but before clicking on the page to actually place the image as you can see in the below image (sorry for the poor quality as I have to take photo w/ my phone to show the cursor preview from InDesign)

For the life of me I have no idea how or why this is happening.  Defintely not sure how a Photoshop element remains in an exported TIFF with no layers. Has anyone else run into this and if so is there something weird I did when saving the TIFF from Photoshop or have you found a solution to this?

PS: If I open the TIFF in Photoshop, it appears as it should on the canvas.  I can also then drag the TIFF from Photoshop and directly into InDesign/Illustrator with no problem as the image appears as it should.

@Sean5C51 Just as a test, if you do this same thing with a .PSD file instead of a .TIF, does the same thing happen? IOW, save your TIF as a PSD and try to bring it into InDesign.

Thanks for reaching out @J E L! Sorry for the delayed reply.

Yes, in fact when I do drop a .psd into Illustrator or InDesign it just places the work path into the doc.

I just tied your suggestion of saving the TIFF as a PSD and then trying to drop it into Illustrator/InDesign but I still get the same result (just the work path).

Thanks again for your looking into this.

@Sean5C51 No worries about the delay I'm only sorry to hear you are still experiencing the issue. Have you been able to update to the latest version 16.4? I'm wondering if maybe this has to do with your display/GPU settings. What is your exact mac OS?

Oh yeah, I have my CC apps set up to update automatically so I am currently working in InDesign 16.4 and Photoshop 22.5.

It should not be an issue w/ my iMac as I upgraded to more than enough processing power, RAM, Graphics card, etc. to specifically handle Adobe CC apps but below are my machine's specs:
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch 2017

Processor: 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Graphics: Radeon Pro 580 8 GB

Okay, it's very strange. Maybe we went over this but does this behavior happen with any TIF file or just this one? Can you attach that file here so we can take a look at it? Maybe it does have something to do with how you saved it.

Hi @Sean5C51

In InDesign, go to Object > Clipping Path > Options

janee_0-1628880018951.png

InDesign will recognize all of your Photoshop Paths and Alpha Channels.

Change the Clipping Path to "None" to see your entire image or choose a different one to see the part you want to see.

It's not a good idea to drag the image from PS directly into InDesign, as you will place a low resolution preview and not a properly placed link to the original file.
