I have an animated GIF file that I would like to 'save for Web & Devices' in Photoshop CS5 Extended.
In the first try all the frames/layers disappeared and the file went flat.
Googling said 'use Timeline' before you save an animated GIF in Photoshop.
I have no 'Timeline' as a menu choice in my Photoshop.
Some info says that I should have it since it is an Extended version.
I don't.
How can I save an animated GIF in CS5 Extended?
(The reason why I want to do this is that I have edited (changed some colors in) the GIF and want to save it again).

Hi
To enable timeline click Window -> Timeline
Check this : https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/creating-timeline-animations.html
I believe timeline was available from CS6.

Thanks Jitendra,
My problem is with CS5.
Example
MyGif.GIF, 24 frames, size 243 kb.
In Photoshop convert to RGB mode.
Possibly do some editing.
a) Normal save, must be as MyGif.PSD , 24 layers, size 1789 kb. But no longer a GIF file.
b) Save for Web & Devices: as MyGif.GIF, will be turned into Mode: Indexed Colors, 1 frame, size 13 kb.
The resulting MyGif.GIF is now no longer animating. All the frames (except one) are lost.
Question remains: How can I save an animated GIF in CS5 Extended?

Hi
Tried at my end and getting the same result.
Never used CS5 before, I am not sure whether I am missing something.
I will do more research on this and will get back to you.

This is an old thread but I still use CS5.. You use 'File' - 'Save for Web and Devices'. This becomes quite straight forward to save the animated Gif.
All the best.

1 - In Photoshop CS5 Extended - select the 'Motion' layout in the top right hand corner , this opens the 'Timeline' window. (You may have to pull the little vertical bar next to 'Essentials' over a bit !!)
2 - Open the 'Gif' and edit until your hearts content - (remember you're creating an animation , so pressing buttons and hiding revealing layers on each frame in the 'Frame Animation Window' will effect the outcome of said animation !!
3 - Top right hand corner of the Animation (Frames) window - 'Convert To Timeline'
4 - Double check - Then 'File' - 'Save for Web Devices' - Options here are quite straight forward.

Thanks for replying this to this old thread. Your instructions were exactly what I needed for a one-off edit of an animated gif 🙂
