I bought a computer a few years ago that has Photoshop CS6 on, but my wife now has the computer, and has no interest in Photoshop CS6. Is there a way I can transfer Photoshop to my new laptop? I should be able to deactivate it from my wifes computer and only use my copy. As for buying a copy, that is out of the question as I am a pensioner without unlimited funds, and I only want it for personal use, as I was a computer graphic designer during my career, and would like to keep my hand in.

Install on your computer with original disks and serial. If it works (and only if it works), deactivate the old computer.

If CS6 was an Upgrade from CS5 you will need both serial numbers to install the upgrade version. The should be listed in your Adobe account my Products. CS6 is version 13. You will also need to download and install the CS6 updated. CS6 is very unstable without its updates. Photoshop Windows updates
also ACR 9.1.1 Download

It's 2020 and this is where things stand right now. CS1, CS2 and CS3 are dead & gone. The activation servers were removed from service years ago. Even if you find an installer, it's impossible to activate the software.
CS4, CS5 and CS6 are on life support. Adobe removed links to installers. But they can still be activated providing you have the following:
1. original media (disks or downloads) you received at purchase and a way to read them,
2. a legitimate serial number for that version, language and platform (Win/Mac),
3. an older operating system that can support legacy 32-bit apps.

NOTE 1 : Creative Suite installers won't work on macOS Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave without terminal workarounds. See the help article below.

NOTE 2: Creative Suite cannot run on Catalina. Downgrade your OS or set-up a virtual machine for legacy software.
NOTE 3: Legacy Creative Suite is discontinued & unsupported. Use at your own risk. Adobe support agents cannot help you with anything except an activation count reset.

Beware of fake Adobe reps who may contact you privately offering to sell you software or take control of your computer. It's a scam, run away!

Photoshop CS6 with its update is my fall back to reliable Photoshop version on Windows 10 I have both the 32bit and 64bit programs installed With the CS6 Update and ACR 9.1.1. I can rest easily knowing have a version of Photoshop I can count on.
Some of the improvement in the creative cloud are good. Content aware features have been improved substantially and are worth while using. Still there are bugs reported CS2 and CS4 and CS6 that are still in Photoshop 2020 21.2.3. Creative cloud is a rocky road. Too many bugs are release and user interface are changed. Photoshop is a great application but not a great user experience. It not all Adobe fault however, most of it is. Adobe seems to have little respect for their customers.
CS6 was probably the worst release of Photoshop I encountered, It took Adobe 5 months the get stable after its release. And more fixes fillowed. Now CS6 is my insurance policy.
