transforming question

My transforming option was set to transform without holding down shift and now it's not.  I don't want to hold down shift and I read that I should use the Maintail Aspect Ratio button and that it is a link icon on the options bar.  Problem is I can see no link icon on my Photoshop window.  How do I get my transform option back like it was without holding shift?

I am using the latest version of Photoshop

When you press Ctrl + T (Windows) or Command + T (macOS), you'll see the link icon between the width (W) and height (H) values in the Options bar.

If nothing above helps can you post screenshot of entire window in free transform mode?

To set it so that you don't need to hold Shift, go to Preferences (via the Edit menu on Window or via the Photoshop menu on macOS), and in the General section, deselect Use Legacy Free Transform.

Got it! Thank you, that is what I needed.  I did get the link icon and click on it.  This solved my problem.  However going to preferences and deselecting Use Legacy Free Transform didn't help by itself.
