transparent gradient tool dose not show up

I dont know if anyone can help me but every time i want to fade an image to transparent using the gradient tool i click on the options and only black to whte and simple colors show up there is no transparent option there at all and ive looked for sultions but its like im the only one with this problem.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Gradients, Options Bar, …) visible?

Your description might be a tad vague: Have you actually already created a Layer Mask for the image? 

Have you considered using a Gradient Layer and a Clipping Mask?
