Transparent Text?

I haven't needed to use this in a long time...so I just need a quick refresher on giving text a percentage of transparency in Photoshop or InDesign

Actually yes and no, I want to be able to scale the transparency percentage of the text itself to overlay on a separate layer. so that the background shows through the text.

Thanks Muqqarib! That's all I needed ... I feel stupid sometimes... I've been retired from a Graphic Design job for ten years! It's the little things that you forget when you aren't at a 9-5 job every day!
