Trim Transparent Pixels not working in CC

I updated from CS (finally caved to a subscription) and I'm having trouble with some essentials.

Image > Trim doesn't work in CC?  I use Trim like every day but in CC it doesnt seem to work anymore. I contacted 3 Adobe techs today and gave them remote access. They couldn't fix it.

The issue is that I have like 50 layers (example) in a file, and normally, I would go to Image > Trim - Transparent Pixels - and all the content that is not visible in the work area would simply trim away. I need to find a way to fix that, it's a necessity.

Related : Every time I draw a box or anything from edge to edge, it doesn't snap to the edges of the visible work area anymore, it goes beyond that into the gray area around the work area.  It should stop by itself at the edges but it doesn't. So now when I save Slices (yes, I prefer Legacy Export) I'm saving images that are too large, they include the content beyond the edges of the window, it's super annoying. Any way to fix that?

Last item : The window keeps scrolling past the edges of the work area. I end up scrolling way past the edges of the window, into the gray area, it isn't stopping at the edges anymore. I'm sure some people like this, but I prefer to only access this behavior in Full screen mode, not all the time (it's hard to work like that, with the window floating all over the place). I've tried to change the settings, but nothing seems to work. I've disabled Overscroll, but it's still over scrolling past the work area.

Does anyone know how to fix these things? I actually can't even finish this one project because I can't get the Trim to work, so that's most important at the moment.

Thanks so much! 🙂

Select the layer you want to crop, go to Blending Options, and apply a bold stroke (+120 pixels/position outside) to show any hidden pixels around the object. The layer you want to crop may have some hidden pixels. I was having the same problem, and this fixed it for me.

Can you post a screnshot of a document this should work on but doesn't or better yet post a file that trim should work on?

You have something in or outside that transparent artea which is blocking the Trim command.  Try grouping all of the layers and and using Cmd T to start Free Transform, and seee if the bounding box extends into or past the transparent area.  If it is outside, select Crop and turn on Delete Cropped pixels in the Options bar. Hit one of the corner handles to activate the crop, and OK it. That will remove anything outside the document bounds, but there might still be something inside.  A single pixel at 1% opacity will stop Trim working.  You just need to do some detective work to track down the errent content.

Let us know how you get on, because this could be an interesting situation.  Good luck.

I have TONS of stuff outside the document bounds - that's the idea of using Trim Transparent Pixels. That's what that tool usually does, it trims everything that is outside the document bounds. That's what I'm trying to use it for, as I've been doing for the last 25+ years. I did also try Crop - delete cropped pixels, but that didn't work either.  I selected the entire document, hit crop, and it didn't crop anything outside of the document bounds.

Did you try Free Transform? I have deliberately set up the situation I referred to below as an example.  I only had one layer and you mentioned having lots of layers, so that's where the detective work is.  If you try Free Transform and it shows no content beyond what you thought to be transparent, then we have a problem.  My guess is that won't be the case, but check it and see.
