Hi all, does anyone have thoughts on why this might be... I have an action that works well, until I turn the toggle dialog on by each "crop" step in the action (so I can verify the crop is done in the right place). When I turn the toggle dialog on, the following step (unsharp mask) no longer works and I get the error "the command "unsharp mask" is not currently available". Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you for your help.

Please post screenshots including all pertinent Panels at the moment of failing and with the fully expanded Action visible in the Actions Panel.
What Layer and Channel is selected?
Is there an active Selection?

Background, selected layer, action from cropping, using Unsharp Mask and all works for me.

Perhaps you have to ensure the being cropped document has same dimension as one you cropped originally.

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure how to implement this. In the action, I start by saving a copy merged version of a psd as a jpg and saving and closing that jpg. Then I open it, crop it, sharpen it and then close it without saving it. I do this about 8 times to crop it at different sizes. Where should I verify the crop size? Thank you.

Add two steps before Crop step. Image Size (with one side same as original image and its resolution) and Canvas Size (to make second side same length as in original image).

As I fiddled with it, I noticed when I opened the jpg it had one layer. When I chose the crop tool and the crop tool appeared, it still had one layer, but as I adjusted the crop tool photoshop changed the jpg to two layers with a top image layer and a white background layer added. I think this may have been the problem becuase when i recorded the action i didn't adjust the crop tool, but when i turned the dialog toglle on in the action it stopped for me to adjust the crop tool, which then added a second layer (new white background) to the image. Maybe this change made the unsharp mask not work. I'll retry the action with an adjustment at each crop. For now, however, I just made the sharpening a separate process so I can complete the work I need to get done quickly. Thank you both for your help.

I don't know a case when use of Crop Tool adds extra layer 😕

I reproduced it without using Classic Mode (you may find in 'Gear' menu Options bar). The added bottom background layer is only part of crop preview mode, so after you approve the chosen crop it's going to disappear to not affect anything that is recorded to Action further.

Please start properly posting screenshots instead of attaching them.
And please post more meaningful screenshots – on the last ones I cannot even see the Options Bar, so there is no way to tell what the Crop Tool’s settings are.
And where did the Solid Color Layer come from? Did it spontaneously occur?
