I am using Photoshop 2022 version 23.2.2.325

From the online Photoshop Users Guide, can anyone please explain to me the following...

2022-04-05_12-08-07.jpg

It says to "set Feather to zero" or "increase the Feather setting", but I cannot find any Feather setting for brushes.

I guess it might refer to the Feather of a Solid Color or Shape Layer that one can use to define a Bushtip.

c.pfaffenbichler,

OK, I see what you are saying. Use the Feather setting when creating the brush, not when using the brush. And if I reread the wording in the User Guide again, I can draw that interpretation - the context left me thinking differently.

Man, I find this User Guide difficult to use, to get any real understanding of how to use the product.

Thanks,

Peter

.... but it means the hardness is "baked in" and if I needed several brushes with differing hardness then I would need to create several custom brushes with differeing Feather settings.

Exactly.

One cannot change the Hardness for Sampled Brushes like one can for the plain round Brushes.
