I have a simple line drawn with the pen tool, and am wanting to change the color and thickness of it.
I've been searching for solutions, and found this Edit Paths page
I'm following instructions where it says :
Specify path options
You can define the color and thickness of path lines to suit your taste and for easier visibility. While creating a path—using the Pen tool, for example—click the gear icon () in the Options bar. Now specify the color and thickness of path lines. Also, specify whether you want to preview path segments as you move the pointer between clicks (Rubber Band effect).
However, I'm not seeing the Gear icon in the Options bar, which should give me the option to change color and thickness.
Is there some reason that isn't showing up?
Thank you for any direction.

That option is available in Photoshop 2018. You are running Photoshop 2017

Yes, I have 2017. Do you know where the instructions for my version are?
Thanks

The option is new to PS2018. It is not available in previous releases

You can do this in the Preferences:

Thanks, however, I"m not seeing "Path" at the bottom of my window, so no option to do that.
And how does changing the grid color impact final artwork? I wouldn't have thought that would change anything.
Perhaps if someone could just tell me the easiest way to put a single pixel wide gray line on a page, that would be great.
thx

You need to be using CC 2018 for the preference.
To put a line in you document set a brush to 1PX 100% hard color gray 100% opacity blend mode normal target a pixel layer stroke a path or use the brush tool click once on one end of the line move the mouse to the other and shift click or use the line tool you can constrain the line to vertical, horizontal and 45 degrees

Seems like you're trying to edit a path for the purposes of making a graphic out of a line/stroke, rather than adjust the usability/appearance of a path used for other purposes (eg, tracing the outline of an object in order to create a selection)?
I'm in the same boat and scratching my head as to what I'm missing and how something so simple could be so easy to overlook.
I want to change this stroke/path/shape's thickness and colour. Any clues anyone?

If you have a path you can target the layer you want to stroke and then stroke the path with a Photoshop tool.

Hello, Photoshop is at its core a pixel editor, paths and shapes have been added later.
The tool of choice to edit paths in a vector way would be in Adobe Illustrator.
The crazy workaround would be to stroke the path, select it, expand it, and convert back to path, in the path panel.

I knew it wasn't that hard, I just couldn't for the life of me find it.
With the pen tool active, ensure the 'Shape', (rather than 'Path') option is selected in the options next to the pen tool icon at the top left of your PS workspace:
You can then edit the stroke width and colour.

Thanks, I keep forgetting about those. I wonder if the stroke is vector or bitmap
