Tutorial

Community Beginner ,
Dec 31, 2018 Dec 31, 2018

I started with Photoshop back in 1994. But, in the last 20 years gradually stopped using it.

I have Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC now and it doesn't look anything like we use to use. I am looking for a tutorial book or something that is interactive. The tutorials listed on the Adobe sight is video's and not interactive. Can anyone recommend ??

The Lynda.com online video tutorials are good, you can get a 30-day free trial:

I'll second Classroom In A Book, as they are the nearest you'll get to official Adobe books.

On the other hand, there's a lot to be said for the Lynda.com videos.  They are interactive in that they can stop and start, and you can read the what is said on the side of the page (as an option)

This is a big screen shot, and you might need to click to expand it.  You can see the highlighted text.  That will travel through the printed notes as the tutor speaks.  There is a cost, but the selection of tutorials is massive, and the teachers are world class.  Plus every poster here with an orange badge has a Lynda subscription, and can help you out if you get stuck.

While I theoretically agree with those who recommend lynda.com, I will add that lynda.com was bought out by LinkedIn and is now LinkedIn Learning. We are all having trouble remembering this after so many years, but use this link:

You’re welcome — we think of lynda.com and linkedin learning as the same thing, but it could be confusing to a new user. The content is the same, and you can still get 30 days free.

While I, too, prefer interactive books to videos, and applaud the suggestions offered here, I wonder if you would consider another option that may be available to you if you live in or near a large city.

I suggest you check the Adult Ed (also called Continuing Education) courses that may be available at a nearby college or the local community center. Check their sites to see whether Photoshop courses are offered, and a description of course content. These classes provide the opportunity to work at a computer as you cover the material, proceed in a logical sequence and ask questions during each session.

Some instructors offer email assistance when an assignment has you baffled.  In addition, you will meet people with a similar interest and probably form a mutual-aid network when the class is over. Avoid the One Day cram courses. They are usually worthless.

(In he spirit of full disclosure: The Adult Ed Photoshop courses I taught at a college in NY met for three hours on 8 consecutive Saturday mornings. I suspect other colleges have a similar setup.

That’s a good idea, norman.sanders. The college where I taught in Virginia was similar — five 3-hour sessions for Level 1 and another five 3-hour sessions for Level 2. Now I only teach at Adobe Authorized Training Centers.

sherolie, you said you started using PS 25 years ago, and I will not ask your age, but the Community Colleges in Virginia let “seniors” take classes for free, and a senior is defined at age 60, so I‘ll just throw that out there in case you qualify.
