Type tool in Mac Photoshop CC generates error

Selecting the Type tool gives me a "could not complete your request because of a program error". I am using CC 20.0.6 on an iMac running OS 10.13.6

Have you tried resetting your Photoshop preferences, you may want to backup your settings beforehand
