Uhhhg!!! For two days I have not been able to merge layers or convert multiple layers to a smart object. This has been super frustrating. I have many session photos to complete by tomorrow!! I keep getting the following error message when try to either merge layers or convert (multiple) layers to a smart object (one layer will convert to a smart object, but I am trying to convert multiple layers): "Cannot complete your request because of a program error".

As a work-around, you could try saving the layered file that you wish to merge layers on, then place it as an embedded smart object. Not sure if it would break the 2021 replace sky feature or not.

Update: it appears to be an issue with the sky replacement feature. Only when I am trying to merge the sky replacement with anouter layer or when I am converting the sky replacement with another layer into a smart object, there is a program error.

Some of the layes in the sky replacemebt group are linked were if you did not include all linked layers in the smart objecy that faile to create  you may need to include the layer you tried to exclude.

However on my windows  Photoshop 22.1 system I do not have a problem creating smart object from  layers  linked or not.
