Question

Unable to select anything for Layers

Randomly PS just stopped allowing me to duplicate layer, or anything on my layer, for that matter. I've gone to my background layer>right click> and everything is deselected (unhighlighted) so I cannot select Duplicate Layer. I tried unlocking the layer (which I've never had to do before). I can do other commands like clone or crop, but I also cannot zoom in or out. I tried restarting PS, then my computer, to no avail. PS has been "buggy" lately, and now I can't work on my images. I tried to run an action and it said "the command Duplicate" is not available. So I can't find a way around this.

Found an answer on another form that worked for me.  Would share the link but I can't find it now.  Disable home screen in preferences of PS.  Close PS and reopen your file from lightroom.  Haven't had an issue since I've done this.

I have the same (or very similar issue) finding that I am unable to edit photos LR to PS. Some suggested going to Image > Mode menu to correct this, but that menu does not appear for me.

What version of Photoshop are you using?

If CC2019, then make sure you have the V20.0.1 update.

I'm having the same problems since the latest update.  I've also noticed I can not deselect at times and crop tool not working as it has in the past.  Anyone have any additional ideas to help with brittanyw8383 problem?

I brought it in through Bridge using Camera Raw, which is how I open all my images. When I opened an image directly from PS it does the same thing.

Have you opened the image directly in Photoshop or brought it in from outside e.g. using Lightroom's Edit in Photoshop. If the latter, try opening Photoshop first then gor to Lightroom, or the other app, and choose Edit in.
