Question

UNknow error [DFER]?

My day is wrecked. None of my AI files will open. When I try, I get "The operation cannot be completed because of an unknown error. [DFER]. After that, I get "Illustrator could not read the link "logo.png" and get options "replace" "ignore" "cancel." None of these options do anything. If I choose "replace" it brings up a window to choose a replacement. I choose the file in question, which hasn't moved or changed and still opens just fine in preview.

I'm using a 2019 Macbook Pro running OS Monterey 12.6.3. My files are saved on my hard drive. My computer battery went all the way dead last night. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Please help! I literally can't afford to have several months of work down the drain. I'll lose my job and be homeless!

same with me also. Let's say I download a wetransfer file to downloads and try to access the same from that location it doesn't show any issues. But after downloading if it is moved from the download folder to any other folder, it creates this error.

Update: The file open in photoshop, but not illustrator. I tried opening different files in AI - some give me the error message above, others give me "Can't open the illustration. The file is locked or in use. ID -54"
As far as I know, it's not locked, and it's not in use.
