Question

Unprompted TASKKILL command shuts down Photoshop randomly

I'm stumped on this one. My photoshop program has been shuting down randomly with no crash report, and I've found that the Command window pops up quickly and closes before I could even see what the command was until I miraculously clicked on the window while working and this is the command that came up:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>TASKKILL  /F  /IM Photoshop.exe

That's what's been killing the program, I'm assuming. I have no idea how it happened. Is there any way to cancel this umprompted command?

Please provide information in Photoshop, select Help > System Info.

Select Help > System Info.

  1. In the System Info dialog, click Copy.
  2. Attach or copy the info here to this thread.

It is highly unusual (to me) that a program would forcibly shutdown Photoshop, unless it was being over protective (security software) or malicious.

edit reply:

Do you have Security/Virus Protection software?  I would run a scan, Windows has a built-in one... Defender.

It's likely an outside source (security software or malicious software) running on your comptuer.

Hi

What exact version of Photoshop and operating system do you have, have you tried resetting your Photoshop preferences

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Photoshop crashes are generally related to buggy drivers, especially GPU drivers

You can normally stop a command running in the command prompt by hitting Ctrl + C

Have you checked Windows Event Viewer in the application log for errors relating to Photoshop.exe
