Updates for Photoshop CC creates Too Much work & Critical Issue

I was very happy with CS6 and developed workflows that streamlined a lot of repetitive tasks. With the advent of Photoshop CC each iteration changes the workflow so that with each CC update I have to start from scratch rebuilding my workflow. Because of this I am very disappointed in the CC experience.

The other issue relates to the AI driven Content Aware.

Each update improves Adobe Sensei but strips creative applications that I had mastered in CS6. Removing objects and making composites was very straight forward in CS6 and I was able to manipulate each layer and mask in non destructive mode while now in CC I am frustrated.

There is much about the ability to restore hair in CC but I could do that in CS6.

Each update to CCrequires a week or two of figuring out what has changed and how to do the steps I did previous (my scripts and actions get broken with each update and I have to redo them).

As far as I am concerned I prefer to work in CS6 and work offline. Not to mention the addons from 3rd parties that work great with CS6 and you have to upgrade or purchase a newer version.

Adobe Photoshop 2022 etc require a higher operating system in order to be able to use that New Version. Adobe is adding to the users cost for a newer operating system that is not compatible with printing devices that have drivers for the various printers that either require a purchase of a new driver or eliminating the users ability to use a printer that costs $400 to $3,600 (plotter). Adobe is digging deep into the users pockets.

As I said my design Work Station and Laptop are only used offline when using Adobe Software (WiFi off and Internet cable disconnected). I use a linux laptop to surf the web and an iPad that are not synced to my Workstation/Laptop.

How would you feel if Adobe required that your computer with their software on it had to always be connected to the internet when Internet connection in some areas is unreliable?

How do you feel when Adobe has an update for a paid subscription and you cannot use that newer version because you need to upgrade your operating system? Should you get a credit?

At this point in time Adobe Photoshop CC is a poor substitute for CS6 IMHO

@9627535 sadly for users of early versions things can break,

say you ned to reinstall Photoshop for some reason, unfortunately the Adobe activation server for CS6 was turned off, as far as I know.

In addition to what Kevin said, Windows users are able to get CS6 running on their computers. It's Apple that upgraded macOS and locked us out of using earlier versions. Not only that, they've done this to us before — I think the count is at five now.

You can still run CS6 if you have a computer and OS that supports it and can continue doing so until any part of the system breaks.

Printers? My first two printers lasted 15 years each. I had to replace the first because it was curling paper. I had to replace the second because I could no longer buy ink for it. Frustrating for a short time, but I got over it and moved on.

Your computer does not have to be online 24 hours a day. It just has to check in sometimes — I think it's every 30 days, but I might be wrong. It will let you know when it's time.

Lastly, you can turn off automatic updates for applications in the Creative Cloud app and only update when you are ready. If you ever have questions about rebuilding your workflow, that's what we are here for. Start a new thread and ask us a question. We love to help!

My Pinnacle Driver that cost around $300 does not work in Big Sur and I have a custom driver for my very old HP Plotter that only has a parrelel port (no usb). That driver cost me $400.
If I upgrade to Photoshop CC 2022/23, as you say Apple has me by the short hairs and does complicate Adobes life.

When I lost all my Actions and Scrips with Photoshop CC2018 I reverted to CS6.

I do not have automatic updates on but what torques my boat is when the CC control center opens up it points out I cannot update to 2022 because I have to update my OS on the Mac. That is kind of insulting.

Here is your cake but you cannot eat it.

Hi @9627535 appreciate your opinon Bob, but as you are aware you can still use CS6 on older equipment so I'm not quite sure what your point is except to rant? There is nothing forcing you to upgrade or use the newer software - as you stated you prefer to run on CS6 offline. That's fine and your choice.

The trade off is there are a lot of workflow advances in Creative Cloud that have been released over the last 10 years with faster methods to complete tasks (one button instead of 4 steps to select subjects, mask), etc. Have masking controls changed since CS6? Yes - but for the better.

Adobe CC 2022+ minimum requirements list Mac OS Big Sur as the minimum OS - which is available on Macs all the way back to Late 2013/Mid 2014. However if you are running CS6 I'm guessing that is a jump from where you are now.

Is there a learning curve? Yes. Could some aspects be improved? Of course. But that is the nature of software - innovate, improve experiences and move forward.

Don't take my reply as a dismissal of your post, but "starting from scratch" with each update seems a bit of an extreme statement. I'm not even going to get into the subscription payment model arguement - that has been settled years ago.

Hi Kevin,

The problem is if I upgrade to Big Sur besides Adobe CCPhotoshop 2022 etc. I have a bunch of design software that works perfectly on my Mac with Maverick OS. If I should change my Mac OS to Big Sur just for Photoshop CC 2023 that will be costly in upgrade fees for the other software and the drivers I have for my printers.

From what I have experienced I can use Photoshop CS6 to accomplish what are considers upgrades for Photoshop CC2020 but not all the cloud stuff.

The newer versions of Premier Pro and Illustrator, in CC, became so frustrating to use do to changes in the UI that I dropped the CC subscription.

With my Autodesk Perpetual Licenses I found the updates were and are costly in time and money with changes to the UI that required months to relearn the software.

As you say I can drop Creative Cloud and go back to using my CS6 Master Edition that over the course of its updates cost me well over $8,000.00 for the software and over 1200 hours of training.

Adobe makes great software but without a consistent UI and not breaking what was working fine Scripts and Actions plus the expense of updating other software and drivers because Adobe wants the user to use the latest MacOS. This is a problem for long term design professionals.

In production I keep all my data backed up so I can access it whenever I want and I don't have to rely on the Cloud. This secures my IP. For folks that do web based collaboration I can see the need for Adobe to improve Cloud based collaboration in conjunction with a newer Operating System.Apples WebKit (whatever it is called) is required by software developers to use but this very tool is not truly secure so they keep having to update it.
