Updating confusion

I have CC2020 that stopped updating and from an earlier post I verified that my graphics card no longer met Adobe requirements. So I've updated my card and now am using Nvidia GEForce GT 730. I also added more RAM and now have 32gb.  Processor is AMD A10-9700 RADEON R7, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G 3.50 GHz. I only use Photoshop, nothing else.

Please understand I am pretty tech challenged and doing my best. So, I find that in changing things my CC2020 still is only version 21.1.2. I do have auto updates set in my CC and in the app it says I am all updated. So I'm wondering how do I now get to the latest version which I understand is CC2023?  There is so much info from Adobe I get really confused.

I did find a page that says "We provide installers for our current apps and the previous major version of each."  Adn below that is this box.

Should I start over, uninstall my CC2020 and then download PS again from the app? Would that then get me to the latest version?

Ok, first do NOT uninstall CC 2020. You won't be able to get it back. I don't have a solution, just wanted to stop you going down that disastrous route.

I hate to tell you this, especially since you just got your graphics card, but the Nvidia GeForce GT 730

doesn't meet the requirements for photoshop 2023. Graphics cards need to use the full feature set of

DirectX 12, however, the GT 730 only uses DirectX 11 features.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to use photoshop 2023, but the experience will be less than ideal because so many of photoshop's more recent features rely heavily on the GPU.

What version of Windows and Build are you using?

(that could have to do with why your not getting photoshop updates)

You can find out by holding down the Windows key and pressing R on your keyboard, then type winver.

Okay, thank you... that should be fixable, I had it done at a local computer shop so they should be able to take this one back and get me a x12.

The other info is:

Win10 Pro, OS Build: 19045.3086,  and Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19041.1000.0 and I have 64 bit

Just to be clear, that means a new and more modern graphics card to replace the very old and outdated GT 730.

Because of the supply shortage and high prices we saw about two years ago, a lot of shops stocked up on old, but still avalable GPUs like the GT 730. They're probably desperate to get rid of them now, and keep selling them to unsuspecting users. I still see them offered.

A good baseline budget model now would be an RTX 3050. That should work well. If your budget allows, the higher model numbers will pay off in much better performance - but it should work for some years to come.

Hello Gentlemen...I followed your advice and I now have Nvidia GEForceRTX installed, plus a power supply since my computer didn't have a cord for the graphics cord. So I've met PS requirements as far as I can see.

I went to the cloud app, clicked on Photoshop , the 3 dots, other versions and I now see this: 

So my question is this...since I'm such a newbie to all this, do I simply click Install and I will get updated? Is there something I need to know/be aware of BEFORE I do that... since at this point I am still in such an older version?

Yes. Uncheck "remove old versions". That keeps your current version along with the new one.

Not only to have something to fall back on just in case you get unforeseen problems, but also because removing the old version in the install process can break the Windows default file associations (which application opens a given file type). It's not supposed to do that, but it often does.

If you later decide to get rid of the old verion, uninstall both in reverse order - last in, first out - then reinstall the new version that you want to keep.

Oh, and also uncheck automatic updates. You want to be in control of this.

Okay thank you. I do not see a "remove old versions" or a place to uncheck automatic updates. Are those in a different place? Right now I am in the "all apps", on the CC Desktop, and then I clicked on Photoshop and the 3 dots, "other versions" and all it shows is "other versions" with the list of what is still available and install buttons beside each version.

Hi @shabby182 when you choose install a second window pops up asking if you want to uninstall older versions.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer - the GT 730 was his old card. He now has an RTX, model not specified, but all the RTX's should be good.

I no longer have the 730. The gentlemen above told me that is not what I wanted and so in accordance with my budget needs I went with their suggestion of the RTX 3050. I simply can't afford money-wise to worry about future requirements right now. I went with what PS suggested on their requirements page, and even that, because I had to also buy more ram and get a power supply for the new graphics card, was a bit more than I could really afford. I am a very simple user so hopefully, this will hold me for a bit.
