when i use photoshop actions should i be removing them when i have finished or is it ok to leave them installed on photoshop. If i just leave them on does it have any impact on photoshops performance or anything. I would appreciate your advice and if it doesnt matter fine.

Actions are always inside of a set (folder). Select the Set, go to the panel menu, and Save the Set. Then you can always bring it back anytime you need the actions that are in it. Be sure to save the set anytime you add, remove, or edit the actions that are in it.

No, leaving them available won't affect performance. But if you don't save the set you put them in, you risk losing them.

By saving them you are combining both.

Saving them is really making an extra copy on the side in a safe place.

The ones you see opened in PS are in their own file and will save per session if you don't have a crash. That's why it's essential so save to your safe spot before you crash/update. My shortcut for saving actions is among the most used ones.

Always save actions as .atn documents to recover in the future.

Thanks Jane for the answer, i do use quite a lot of ATN's and although I make sure I store them, to avoid losing them. It is easier to leave the best ones on photoshop.

thanks again.

You're welcome, @picmender, it sounds like you are good with saving the Actions Sets. We hear too many stories about people who lose them because they didn't back them up. It's possible that you didn't even need the two extra comments to save them after you posted that you are!
