Using free transform to resize an object

I am trying to resize an object - specifically a full moon - in one of my pictures. I am able to successfully enlarge and move it, but when I'm done the edges around the moon are rough and it looks as though the moon was pasted onto the image without really blending in. Am I missing a step after using the free transform tool? Is there a step-by-step process to smoothen the edges and make them look more natural so it blends into the background?

The hard edges come from the type of selection you made before using free transform. What steps did you follow before using the free transform? Maybe you can take a screen capture of your workspace that includes your layers panel.

Enlarging is usually going to result in pixelation.  Especially with a round object, but you  might look at what the interpolation is set to for Free Transform.  If it had become selected to Nearest Neighbour, then that's going to cause some problems.

Also make sure you view your resized image at 100% view (actual pixels).
